When the user inputs a new value, value gets reassigned and the binding is broken. Apparently this only happens for keyboard entry, whereas up/down arrows preserve the binding. Not sure what the deal is exactly, but it ended up in "Reset"/"Default" buttons not restoring value correctly after the field was changed. This extra connection makes sure that restoring will work.
